A little care goes a long way

How to Wash and Care for TENCEL™ AIR Blend Sheets: The Ultimate Guide

Your Littil TENCEL™ AIR Blend bedding is designed for the humid Southeast Asian climate. Because it’s a high-performance natural fiber, proper care is essential to maintain its breathability and buttery-soft feel. Follow our expert guide to keep your sheets looking and feeling like new.

Should You Wash Your New TENCEL™ Sheets Before Use?

At Littil, we use clean, toxin-free manufacturing. While our sheets are safe to sleep on immediately, we suggest a quick, gentle first wash. This "sets" the fibers and unlocks the maximum softness of the AIR Blend from night one.

Wash

The Best Way to WASH TENCEL™ AIR Blend

To prevent "fibrillation" (the appearance of tiny white fluff) and maintain fabric strength, follow these washing instructions:

Always wash Inside Out.

Hand Wash (The Gold Standard)

Hand washing is the safest method for TENCEL™.

  • Quick Soak: Keep soaking time under 15 minutes. Over-soaking causes natural fibers to swell, which can lead to pilling.

Machine Wash (Delicate Mode)

If using a washing machine, always select the Delicate or Hand Wash cycle.

  • Cold Water Only: Heat can damage the AIR Blend’s delicate structure.
  • Wash Separately: Avoid washing with rough items like towels, jeans, or anything with zippers and hooks.

Choosing the Right Detergent for TENCEL™

  • Liquid Detergent & Mild: Use a gentle, pH-neutral detergent (e.g., eucalyptus wool wash).
  • Avoid Bleach & Softeners: These chemicals strip the natural fibers and reduce the moisture-wicking "AIR" properties of your sheets.
  • No Optical Brighteners (OBAs): Check your detergent label; OBAs can cause discoloration over time.

Dry

How to Dry TENCEL™ Sheets Without Wrinkles

Line Dry (Strongly Recommended): Hang your sheets to dry indoors or in a shaded, ventilated area.

Gravity is Your Iron: Hanging allows gravity to pull the fabric straight, naturally smoothing out wrinkles as they dry.

Should you use a dryer?

The Dryer Exception: We do not suggest using a dryer. However, if you must, use only Low Heat / Low Tumble.

The 25% Rule: Remove sheets while they are still about 25% damp and let them finish drying flat on your bed for a crisp, smooth finish.

Is Pilling Normal?

Yes. It is important to know that slight pilling is a natural characteristic of high-quality, organic fibers like TENCEL™ Lyocell. Unlike synthetic "plastic" fabrics, natural fibers are living and may experience slight pilling in high-friction areas (like where your feet or beard rub).

To minimize pilling:

  • Avoid high heat and friction.
  • Keep skin (especially heels) moisturized.
  • Wear soft sleepwear and avoid hard fabric.

Storage & Freshness

  • Fold Right Away: TENCEL™ wrinkles when left in a heap. As soon as they are dry, fold them immediately or apply them to your bed.
  • Store Cool: Keep your spare sets in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve the color and fiber integrity.
